Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative
The Philadelphia Youth Sports Collaborative was founded in 2009 by Nancy Peter and Wendy Palmer as a networking group for non-traditional sports-based youth development organizations, initially housed at the University of Pennsylvania’s Out-of-School Time Resource Center. After seven years of peer support and knowledge-sharing among member organizations, PYSC re-launched in 2015 as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a broader mission and a full-time executive director. PYSC believes every child should have equitable access to high-quality youth sports activities grounded in positive youth development principles and delivered by adults trained in trauma-sensitive coaching methods. Rather than running direct programming itself, PYSC works to dramatically enhance the capacity of youth-serving organizations across Philadelphia — now a network of dozens of member organizations, including Beat the Streets Philly and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Philadelphia — by training coaches and staff, building citywide partnerships, and advocating with city and state government for funding and resources dedicated to youth sports.
