this is some textOpen Field was founded in 2010 by American Justin Forzano and Cameroonian Peter Ngwane, who first met in 2006 during Forzano’s initial trip to Cameroon. Originally launched as the Cameroon Football Development Program, the Pittsburgh-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit rebranded as Open Field in 2016 after creating a youth-led, community-based model for educational soccer leagues that gained traction internationally; the organization was accepted into the global streetfootballworld network in 2014, enabling FIFA funding. Open Field’s mission is to improve the lives and futures of youth through sport, promoting education, physical and mental health, girls’ empowerment, leadership, and life skills through soccer with a healing-centered, trauma-informed coaching approach. In 2019, Open Field expanded its programming to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, partnering with youth-serving organizations across Allegheny County to reach immigrant, refugee, and other marginalized youth, while continuing its international work in Cameroon, Guinea, and Liberia — engaging more than 7,500 youth in sport-based youth development programming since its founding.
