Mikey’s League
Founded in 2019 by Carl, a combat veteran, in memory of his brother Mikey, Mikey’s League was born from Carl’s search for a way to honor his brother through the one thing they loved doing most together—sports. Based in Arizona, Mikey’s League is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides inclusive sports opportunities for athletes with and without physical or cognitive disabilities, challenging the idea that kids with disabilities need to be treated differently. The organization’s programs — including baseball, basketball, and flag football — invite athletes (children and young adults with disabilities) to compete alongside peer partners (individuals without disabilities) in structured practices with intentional coaching, ensuring everyone’s talents can shine. Mikey’s League offers 90-minute inclusive sports sessions (45 minutes of drills, 45 minutes of play), modifying rules as needed so a kid once used to watching from the sidelines gets to be in the game, supported by a scholarship fund powered by the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation.
