United Community Center/Bruce Guadalupe Community

United Community Center traces its roots to the 1960s, when the Milwaukee Christian Center’s “Hard to Reach” program identified South Side teens at risk of delinquency and connected them with support services at a location known as “The Spot.” By 1970, Milwaukee’s Hispanic community wanted to assume control of the program, separating it from the Milwaukee Christian Center; the organization was renamed the United Community Spot and later the United Community Center (UCC), officially forming its own board of directors at the end of 1970 under founding leader Rev. Jaime Dávila. UCC has grown into a comprehensive organization serving Milwaukee’s Latino community through education, health, housing, and cultural programming — including the Bruce-Guadalupe Community School and UCC Acosta Middle School — now serving more than 18,000 people annually with over 500 full-time staff. Milestones include the 2008 dedication of Generations Park connecting seniors and youth, the 2010 opening of the Olga Village affordable senior housing community, and the 2018 opening of UCC Acosta Middle School following an $8 million capital campaign.
