Seattle Tennis and Education Foundation

Founded in 2017 by Colin Plank, the Seattle Tennis and Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and Seattle’s first chapter of the National Junior Tennis and Learning (NJTL) network established by tennis legend Arthur Ashe in 1969. STEF’s mission is to inspire under-resourced kids to be active in mind and body so they gain the confidence and skills to achieve their dreams, primarily serving low-income elementary-age kids living in Magnuson Park through a program hosted at Tennis Center Sand Point. Combining tennis instruction with educational enrichment and social-emotional curriculum, STEF pairs enrolled youth with caring coaches and role-model mentors — community leaders and high school students — who spend six hours a week with students throughout the school year, building long-lasting relationships that stress the value of lifelong education. STEF aims to help level the playing field for kids across the Seattle area, serving over 300 young people annually with at least 200 hours of physical activity programming each year, with the ultimate goal of supporting kids so they graduate high school and move on to college or vocational opportunities.
